Where to stay

Moorea offers a diverse range of stays, from traditional beachfront bungalows—often reminiscent of classic Polynesian architecture—to high-end boutique hotels tucked along the island's lush ports. For budget-conscious swimmers, camping facilities near the coastal zones are available, providing a proximity to the water that is hard to match. Expect to pay between €120 and €350 per night depending on the proximity to the shoreline and the level of amenities provided, such as private decks or direct beach access.

Things to do nearby

The weekend is best spent exploring the island's volcanic terrain through guided trekking paths that lead to the peaks of Mount Tohivea, offering panoramic views of the channel you just conquered. For a more relaxed pace, visitors can engage in outrigger canoeing or paddleboarding within the protected lagoons, or visit the interior valleys to sample local fruit and traditional Polynesian cuisine. Archaeological sites featuring ancient stone marae provide a deep look into the island's pre-colonial history, grounding your swimming experience in the broader cultural landscape.
